BackStoppers of Jefferson County: Who We Are
BackStoppers of Jefferson County, Missouri is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization proudly sharing the mission of BackStoppers, Inc. Founded in 2009 by a group of dedicated community leaders and public servants to provide essential support to the families and loved ones of fallen or critically injured first responders.
Our Mission: Supporting Families of Fallen First Responders

As an organization, we are proud to stand behind the men and women who stand on the front lines for our community — firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other emergency services personnel—and provide essential services and support for their families when they are the ones who need help. We dedicate ourselves to supporting the members of our community who give so much to us, beginning with making sure their loved ones never face the future alone.
BackStoppers of Jefferson County gives members of our community the opportunity to honor the service and sacrifices of our local public safety officers and their families. When a first responder is either critically injured or falls in the line of duty, we are there to provide their family with the care, respect, and support they deserve as they navigate this difficult period in their lives.
A History Built On Serving Those Who Serve Us
BackStoppers of Jefferson County was established back in 2009 by five outspoken leaders within our local community and emergency services who shared in a vision of establishing an organization that assists local families of first responders undergoing a life-changing event. Our founding members include:
-
John Newsome — Retired Chief; Antonia Fire Protection District
-
Steve Meinberg — Retired Undersheriff; Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department
-
Donna Litton
-
Linda Stewart
-
Dour Ruether — Owner; Ruether Ford

Since its inception, BackStoppers of Jefferson County has proudly served the men and women who serve in our emergency response agencies and their families. In April 2024, BackStoppers of Jefferson County officially became its own 501(c)(3) organization, strengthening our ability to serve the community while continuing our close partnership with BackStoppers, Inc.
